These are Tips per se, more just my collection of notes for recording or mixing the bass guitar.

Yes of course you want the low end from the bass.  It is the instrument that most often glues the harmony together in the song.

  • Around a 100Hz that will fill out the instrument given the deep sound and work with the kick drum in your music.  You might still explore side-chaining depending on the style of music.
  • Most of the definition and articulation is going to come in the range from 200 Hz to 500 Hz. This is where you might get some more of the shape and color of the instrument.

So depending on how many inputs you have on your sound module, you can record more than one signal at the same time.  You can try any combinations of

  • DI Box
  • DI from the Amplifier
  • Microphone in front of the cabinet/ amp.

Try a multi-band EQ in these ranges or settings to help color your sound.

  • Low middle Freq – 110 Hertz
  • Mid Freq – 350 Hz
  • High middle Freq – 850 Hertz
  • High Freq – 6 K Hertz
