Stretching Too Far

For the Song

I am writing this entry from memory. There are no initial notes for this song.

Finally had got this new VST working, and this popped out. That literally was how this song started. The initial working title was “Long Chords”. Couldn’t think of anything else. It seems that initial naming of something is habitually one of the times when my mind always goes blank. Always.

This is the 4’th song on my very first EP. The chords just came to me off the top of my head. I remember that the bass design, FX, and automation are largely inspired by an Andrew Huang video, I just don’t remember which one. Sorry. You should check his YouTube page regardless. The 4 produces one sample is one particular series I enjoy much. The ride cymbal is thanks to Eric Kummer, in that I know that it is his ride cymbal from our studio space for the band. I came in to record something else, and he had some sticks lying around, and I had microphones. What can I say, other than his drums sound great.

For the video

I used a site called Night Café to AI generate an image for me based on some parameters that I chose. Design, Feel, Title, etc. Later after that rendered, I saw that I had a free option to animate the image. I am sure this is a trial thing, or one time offer to get you interested in the service.

From their I took the MP4 file it gave me and started slowing and speeding it up, and combining multiples copies into what is on You Tube right now. This is the first “music video” I have created for a song that I wrote. I do use that term lightly, but it did give me the chance to dig more into Shotcut.

Check out the original song on Soundcloud.

— Edit —
It wasn’t until super late into the night and the final render that I noticed the title was off. Talk about a kick in ‘the proverbial’. Anyway, I took that as a sign to go to bed, and worry about it in the morning. I logged into Night Café, and felt mildly vindicated, in that in my initial request I spelled everything correctly. So that proves that the AI overlords are still learning to spell, and we have some time still.

Tee Hee.
