Notes :: Tune the Drums

Drum Room Project

When you are tuning drums make sure that you do cross tension. Meaning that you start with the lug nut furthest across from you give it a 1/2 a turn, then go across from that do half a turn, across from that half a turn. It ends up being a star pattern on the drums.. It is important to take note of what the drum key looks like when you put it on the log knot and do the same amount of turn in each location.

It’s important to do the tap test at each of the lug nuts. Do you have the same tone? Do you have the same pitch? You can tune each log not appropriately appropriately..Tighten the log knot if you need to pitch it up, comma and loosen it if you need to pitch it down down.

It is important to stretch out the drum head.. You can just do that with the Palm of your hand. You might hear some cracking sounds sounds, those are normal those are normal. You’re not gonna break the drum gently stretching out the head.. Make sure you do the tap test after stretching out the head

It is important to tune it looser than you want to go and then tune up to the pitch you want.. Always tune up on your drum head I’m mad.
