Trumpian Politics – A Progressive Trump in the Midwest

In this first episode of Trumpian Politics, I want to show our impartiality.  Yes, I know we are named for the orange clown show, but I thought it important to showcase another trumpian in office.  This one is the mayor of Chicago Brandon Johnson.

“If you ain’t with us, you just gotta go.”

To be clear.  Mayor Johnson I am not with you. I did vote for you.  Paul Vallas would have been worse for the city IMO. You were truly the lesser of 2 evils IMO, and it really sucks that my choices to represent me come down to who can I stomach better.  I need to vomit.

He is a so-called, “collaborator in chief”, but considering his preference for insults, I can see why no one would want to collaborate with this person.  He has begun to “clean house” as is beginning the push to remove people from positions within the city government and bureaucracy.  The official reason is retirement for all of these folks, who all happened to retire on the same day.

He is a so-called, “collaborator in chief” but couldn’t collaborate on his budget at the beginning, was was soundly rejected.  He very much was in a tit for tat fight with Pedro Martinez through most of 2024.  In Axios’ write up from a recent ballot initiative, the number of reasons it was defeated only highlight the lack of collaboration with anyone.  I was leaning mostly towards number 6 given how the contract with CTU is going, and the goal the mayor has to completely bankrupt the city, so that he can pay back his ‘crew in CTU’.

So how is all of this trumpian.

Mayor Johnson doesn’t prattle on incoherently, doing “the weave” IMO.

He is however extremely  rude, obnoxious, beligerent to anyone who questions him, or even suggests this is not the most brilliant and progressive idea in the world.  If you do not believe me, watch some of his press conferences.  He it appears might be a bit cowardly as well.

This is very much aligning with Trump behaviors well.  So far he is checking all of the boxes.  Lying of course came with the budget and his proposed tax hike.  The commonalities are growing day by day, and I do not see it stopping.
